Frequently Asked Questions

Fabric Questions

What is Sweet Stash?

Sweet Stash is hand dyed fabrics for cross stitching. They are created and dyed exclusively by Cross Stitch Boutique using professional industry dyes. Each "color" in the fabric line has specific guidelines that will always be consistent. However, every piece will be unique, having their own variation and style. That is what makes them so wonderful!

If you plan on purchasing a color for several different coordinating projects, we recommend you purchase them all at the same time so they will be processed in the same dye lot.

What fabric types do you sell?

We carry Aida, Jobelan, Linen, and Lugana. Some are available in Opalescent. Other fabric types and counts are available upon request, but they will have to be special ordered and will take longer to be shipped to you.

What are the fabric measurements?

Please refer to our fabric size chart for complete size measurements as sizes vary per fabric type.

The fabric I received is not the same size as you said it would be.

Fabrics are cut to the size stated on our size chart. They are then serged, which will remove a small amount of fabric. During the dyeing process, shrinkage will occur depending on the type of fabric. When choosing a size to order, we recommend you purchase a size that is at least 3" larger on each side than your design size (6" each direction total) to be safe.

Do you custom cut fabrics to other sizes?

No, we do not offer custom cut fabrics at this time.

Why do some fabrics dye differently than others?

Simply... different material types absorb dye better than others. Therefore, every fabric type will have it's own level of color intensity. Cotton and Linen absorb the dye much better then rayon or polyester. An evenweave fabric such as Lugana or Jobelan is approximately a 50/50 combination of cotton and rayon. Therefore, they will dye lighter than a 100% cotton or linen fabric.

Are the fabrics washable and colorfast?

According to the manufacturer of our professional soap for dyes, all dye will be removed and set and will not have any "loose dyes" left. All fabrics are washed in a washing machine at the end of the dyeing process with this soap. However, we still cannot guarantee that they are colorfast, especially darker colors. We suggest if you wash your finished piece, you use cold water and a gentle soap. We recommend using Fabri-Care soap for needlework. Gently swish and rinse. Do not let it soak for a long period of time. This way, even if some dye still comes out of the fabric, it will not "bleed" into your threads.

How does my fabric arrive?

Your fabrics are washed, pressed, serged, labeled and in a protective bag ready to be stitched on.

Why does my fabric look different than the picture did?

All fabrics are hand dyed per order and although the same dye colors and processes are used, each piece will never be exactly the same in color and pattern. This makes your piece completely unique!

Linen will usually be darker and have more defined lines between colors. Aida dyes a little lighter and usually 14 count is the darkest of Aida fabrics. As Aida fabric count gets higher, they dye slightly lighter. Evenweaves (Lugana and Jobelean) are the lightest of the fabrics with a much smoother transition/blend between colors... little to no line definition can be seen. Opalescent fabrics will dye lighter than their non-opal counterpart due to the fact that some non-dye-able metallic threads replace the dye-able threads.

Close up photos are scanned to try to get the most accurate representation of colors. We try our best to represent each color as accurately as possible, but please note colors may vary due to dye lots, computer monitors, etc. You will love them so much more in person!

How long does it take to get fabric?

We do not keep fabric in stock, every piece is made to order. Our standard turn around time is approximately 3 - 8 weeks. This is an estimate, not a guarantee. This does not include USPS delivery time, back ordered fabrics (from our supplier), sale periods, or holidays. Large orders can take up to 8 weeks or more.
